14 year-old babysitting her niece sends chilling texts after an intruder barges into the house

Teenagers often get a bad rap. Everyone seems to think they’re lazy, entitled, obsessed with social media, overly attached to their cell phones, don’t know how lucky they are, and on the list goes. Of course, elders have always complained about the younger generation. It’s only human nature. As you’ll see, 14-year-old Savannah Jones exhibited bravery, self-sacrifice, and quick thinking that would put most adults to shame.

After school one day, Savannah was babysitting her 4-year-old niece Zoyee at their house in Montclair, California. Someone started banging on the front door. Savannah knew nobody was expected to drop by, so she certainly wasn’t about to open the door. She looked out the peephole and saw a man she didn’t know. He was standing there, just pounding away on the door. Then he started furiously working the doorknob. Something definitely wasn’t right.

Thinking on her feet, Savannah grabbed Zoyee and hustled her off to a bathroom. She made sure Zoyee understood that she wasn’t to make a sound. Then Savannah texted her mom to tell her what was going on. Her blood ran cold when she heard the man kicking the door in and coming into the house. Savannah was terrified but kept in touch with her mom by text. More concerned for Zoyee’s safety than her own, she also made sure that the 4-year-old stayed calm and above all, quiet.

Fortunately, the intruder never investigated the bathroom, though he did pass terrifyingly close by. Savannah’s mom called the police and when they got there, the two girls were safe and sound although the intruder remains on the loose. Police officers hailed Savannah as a hero and we think you’ll agree when you see the local TV news report we’ve posted below.
