Disguised as a top 10 countdown of the smallest dog breed, the real goal of this video is to make the viewer fall in love with small dogs, if he or she wasn’t already.
The incontrovertible fact is that not all dog lovers love small and large dogs equally. Some clearly prefer large dogs and may find small dogs annoying, and some are into small dogs only and may find large dogs scary. It’s a natural phenomenon not unlike people’s preferences of chicken. You know, some prefer friend chicken and others grilled chicken, or baked chicken, or curried chicken, and so on.
This clip also goes out of its way to make people aware of two common traits of small dogs that are helpful to know, namely separation anxiety and small dog syndrome.
Separation anxiety exists in large dogs too but not to the extent of small dogs. A small dog with separation anxiety can really freak out in such a way as to require medication. I wonder if smaller sized human beings are also more prone to crippling anxiety and panic attack compared to large individuals.
The other one is a not very well-known identity crisis known as small dog syndrome. The smaller a dog is the more likely it is that the dog would think of itself as the boss with absolute power over larger individuals. One parallel comparison that I can think of is the laptop. You see, the smallest and lightest laptop endows the owner with the highest sense of pride.
Finally, I’d be remiss not to point out the multi-cultural contributions to this top 10 list. There are 3 breeds originally developed in the UK, 2 in China, 2 in Russia, and one each from Malta, Germany, and Mexico.
