This home’s Christmas display lets go with lights and a hit song

Everyone has their favorite Christmastime activity. Maybe it’s sending out cards or singing carols. Many people love giving or receiving presents; some eccentrics even enjoy the shopping. There’s the baking of cookies and assembly of gingerbread houses. Some of us just guzzle eggnog to get us through the holiday season. And then, of course, there’s decorating, whether trimming the tree or stringing up some lights. A few homeowners really go all-out, deploying plastic Santas, reindeer, and candy canes as well as covering their houses with thousands and thousands of lights

With the advent of LED lights that are energy efficient and tolerate being turned on and off frequently combined with computer technology, it’s now possible for anyone who doesn’t mind the relatively minor expense (and a higher electric bill), to create a spectacular light display and even have the lights dance to music.

One family decided to do up a dazzling Christmas light display and have it synchronized to the song “Let It Go” from Disney’s movie “Frozen.” Based on a tale by Hans Christian Andersen, “Frozen” tells the story of a princess with magical powers (involving snow and ice) that she is forced to suppress but which end up coming out into the open. In “Let It Go,” the princess lets go of her past and becomes her true self. Children who’ve seen the movie have a way of becoming obsessed with the song!

You might be wondering about the cactus — it’s a saguaro, the iconic cactus of the Sonora Desert. As they explain, “The cactus has been part of our display before there was a display. My wife and I found it alongside the road and fell in love with it (plus we live in Texas so we can get away with it).” The cactus definitely adds a humorous element to an otherwise frozen scene!
