Man sits down with old crib. What he does with it next is so creative.

It’s time – your baby has outgrown his or her crib. You don’t want to junk it though, especially if it’s high quality. The last thing you want to do is waste the money that you plunked down for the thing, especially if you know that no other babies are on the way. What do you do, though? Fortunately, there are many ways that you can repurpose your crib. Some of them don’t require a lot of hammering.

There are a LOT of good ideas here. You can use it to house your china, transform it into a desk, hang lighting from it on the ceiling, set up a barbeque area – this would be better for places where it’s warm year-round, make a plant holder, use it as a jewelry holder, and even make a rustic or modern swing out of it. The only limitation is your imagination. I’m impressed with what people came up with.

The one that I really like is the book or magazine rack. The video also was cool, with a crib being turned into a dog bed. A cat bed would also be a nice idea. I’d have to have someone else do it for me, though, since I am all thumbs when it comes to DIY projects. I don’t feel like going to a doctor for a swollen hand after I hit it with a hammer. That doesn’t stop me from watching videos like this though. One can dream…

While we bought a crib that can eventually be turned into a full-sized bed, this ideas are genius. It’s amazing how many items can be used for purposes that they were not designed for. That’s a boon for us who are living in these tougher economic times. I’ve always been more of a function over form kind of guy, but these make some of my ideas pale by comparison. Maybe I can get some inspiration here.

Were you inspired by these? Do some of them seem like old-hat to you? Do you have any other uses for a crib that’s not listed here? We’d love to hear them. Just leave them in the comments section below!
