When I first saw the title of this video, I thought it might be about Kevin Richardson, who is known as “The Lion Whisperer”. He’s gone into enclosures and had lions jump into his arms. They love him that much. He doesn’t appear in this, but the video that’s here is equally cool. We get to see the shared love between a man and the lioness that he adopted. I must warn you: It’s in Spanish, but you’ll get the general gist of what’s going on.
Adolfo walks into her enclosure and a staff worker opens a sliding door. This sounds like something out of the Ancient Roman days, with a gladiator about to face a fierce lion. Not so… this lioness, named Kiara, runs in, crouches… and hugs Adolfo. She’s so thrilled to see the man who adopted her from a terrible situation. She knows this man saved her from a truly terrible fate and wants to show her thanks.
Kiara adores Adolfo, but she’s also not entirely aware of her size. There’s also a few times that she rolls on to his… ahem.. nether regions. She also gently nibbles on his leg. Well, as gently as she can with teeth that are likely as thick as two of my fingers put together. Adolfo is unconcerned, assuredly moving her head away if she looks like she’s going to nip a problem area. This is bonding at its best.
Admittedly, the only time I think I would be standing in front of a lioness is if there was anarchy in the streets and someone had opened all the exhibits in the zoo. In that case, it would be a pretty dire situation for me and my continuing my lifespan for more than the next 30 seconds to a minute or so. Kudos to Adolfo for taking in Kiara and showing her the love and respect that she deserves. I’ll still watch from the other side of the cage, thanks.
