This Photo Helped A Dad Detect His Son’s Cancer

Some believe that mobile phones can cause cancer because of radio frequency radiation, however in one family’s case, a cellular phone gets the credit for saving a life…

After snapping what ended up being a lifesaving picture of his then-14-month-old son,  Own Scrivens noticed that the infant’s eyes looked extremely different from each other. After an exhuastive web search, the family quickly scheduled an appointment with their pediatrician. The diagnosis: Cancer… specifically called retinoblastoma.

“There’d been nothing else wrong, although after we noticed the eye color he started to develop a bit of a squint,” Scrivens said. “I looked through some old photos and you actually can see the point where it changes in late November.”

After his cancer treatment, the family reports that the growth has actually diminished to a 3rd of the size, though it will never ever disappear entirely. The hope is that it will wind up as a little, benign mass that will be kept track of throughout the boy’s life.

Scrivens says his little boy was sick for a few days following his chemo treatment, but that he bounced back very quickly. “His sight is alright – they can’t do a proper eye test but from what they’ve found, he’s missing a bit of tunnel vision,” dad explains.

So often searching online for medical issues leads down rabbit hole loaded with worst case scenarios, but in this case, Scrivens’  was absolutely the right one and he saved his child’s life. Thank goodness for modern-day innovation!
