Imagine finding your animal, be it cat, dog, bird or any other kind in trouble. They are looking at you to try to get them out… but they are also animals, so logic isn’t exactly their strong suit. They may know that you’re trying to help them, but they can’t do what you need them to do. Then that becomes even more frustrating, because despite your best efforts and other people’s efforts, it may take a miracle of sorts to get them free. Like what happens in this video from Poland.
Marek is a Polish farmer who goes to his barn to find that his horse, Freedom, has fallen in a hole. There’s a bit of an allegory to this name given the current political climate in the U.S., but that’s neither here nor there at the moment. His first efforts to free her involve him racing out to get bales of hay to fill up the hole and perhaps boost her to the top. That didn’t work and she remained stuck.
Secondly, he calls the local fire department. The firemen arrive and they use their hoses as hoists to try to get her out of the hole. These men can carry heavy fire equipment, but Freedom proves to be too heavy – and unwilling to try to help herself – for these men to get her out onto the barn floor. Freedom is getting tired, too, though she does sustain herself by eating some hay while the firemen try to lift her out.
Now it’s looking like the hole might be her final resting place if they aren’t able to get her out soon. She’s becoming even more fatigued. Her spark of life was starting to fade. It seemed like they have done all they can do. Then Marek strokes her neck and tells her that it’s OK. It’s like he’s saying goodbye. Instead of causing her to accept her fate, it stirs up an inner well of strength for her. She starts trying hard and the firemen are able to lift her enough for her to get her front hoof on the floor. Soon, she’s free! What a happy ending!
