Rory Feek Breaks Silence In A Blog Post After Returning To Family Farm Following Joey’s Death

In March 2016, the world lost a great musician and a beautiful person when Joey Feek passed away from ovarian cancer. Her family was living in Indiana at the time, and immediately packed up their home to move back to the family farm in Tennessee.

They’d been living in Indiana so Joey stay in her mother’s home, and pass away there. But she wanted to be buried in Tennessee, at the Feek family cemetery on the farm. In a post on husband Rory’s blog not long after the move back to Indiana, he shared photos from the farm and from the blossoming springtime.

Rory also shared that spring was Joey’s favorite season. “It always has been,” he wrote. “It’s when she feels most alive.  And this year, in spite of all she’s going through… is no exception. Back home in Tennessee, she plants a big garden every spring behind our farmhouse.”

He shared some of Joey’s motivations behind tending a garden, as well. “She does it because it’s important to her. Planting a garden and raising food that she can feed her family is part of who Joey is. That doesn’t stop just because you have cancer or are stuck in a bed for months-on-end. Life goes on.  And what was important, is still important to her.”

Joey had started planting seeds from her hospice bed in Indiana in preparation for the spring. Rory took the starts back to Tennessee, and put them in the soil to grow and bloom in honor of Joey.
