Post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is a very serious mental condition. It plagues anyone that has been put in a situation where they are forced to endure stressful situations over a long period of time. While there are many places, and occupations, that can provide such an environment, it is most commonly found in war.
So many of our veterans come back to our shores suffering from this silent killer. The emotional scars of trauma cannot be seen the same way that physical scars can be. These people have given their time, their bodies, and often their friends lives; to fight for our freedom.
Because mental illness is still such a faux pas in society the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center in Lockwood Valley, California, has developed a program called the Warriors and Wolves program. This program is catering to veterans without patronising them, or treating them without dignity. This is such an amazing program and I hope it continues for many years.
