11-Year Old Makes Brave Journey to Escape Ukraine, on His Own

There are so many things that we take for granted in our lives. Things such as simple security, stability, and shelter are all luxuries of life that many people in this world don't have access to.

A person in a grey hoodie sits at a table, while two women stand in a doorway, smiling.

This is especially true when considering the current war in Ukraine. With families being ripped apart and separated every day, all they want is a sense of security and safety.

With the current humanitarian crisis in that region, many families are being separated. This was precisely the case for an 11-year old boy names Hassan.

A group of seven people, including a child with a soccer ball, stands outside holding flowers and a dog, smiling.

Having to flee Ukraine to escape the Russian invasion, Hassan made the brave journey to Slovakia all by himself. With just his brother's number written on his hand, he shows immense bravery.

After spending more than a whole day traveling by train, Hassan safely arrives in Slovakia all alone. However, the rest of his family would soon join him as they fled later.

A woman holds a fluffy dog while another person leans in close, both outdoors near a fence.

This isn't the first time that Hassan and his family had to escape a war-torn country. They came to Ukraine after fleeing a battle and Syria some years before.

When it comes to fundamental human rights, you can only hope the people have access to a sense of security. For 11-year old Hassan, hopefully, his life only goes upward from here.
