There were 126 nurses of Missouri's Mercy Children’s Hospital who entered the Mega Millions lottery and won. They didn’t win the grand prize, but they did win $10,000.

Their winning ticket was actually one number away from the Mega Millions jackpot. After taxes, their winnings would be $7,200. If they split it among the 126 of them, they would each get $56.

Instead of splitting it 126 ways, they decided to give it to two nurses among them who needed it the most. The two nurses were Gretchen Post and Casey Orellana.

Gretchen Post had a son who died from suicide. His name was Jack and he was only seventeen years old. With tears in her eyes, she said that it would help pay for his funeral.

Casey Orellana’s husband, Phil, was recently diagnosed with sarcoma cancer. It spread to his lungs, and she was worried about how they were going to afford all the medicine.

Orellana and Phil had four kids, and he stopped working while she had to cut down on her hours to take care of her family. She was thankful when she found out what the nurses decided to do with the money.

The decision of the 126 nurses was incredibly generous. It showed that their kindness goes beyond taking care of those admitted to their hospital.
