Back in the day, it was very rare for women to play the drums. They were usually turned to the piano or cello because it was thought to be more feminine. A 64-year-old woman named Mary Hvizda from La Crosse, Wisconsin breaks the societal norms.
When you think of a drummer, you may picture someone with long black hair, tattoos, and wearing a cool leather outfit. Mary couldn’t look more homely. Dressed in casual clothes with beautiful white hair, she doesn’t look like the talented drummer that she is.
Hvizda has uploaded videos of herself online, playing the drums without missing a beat. One of her videos even has over seven million views. She says she’s been playing drums all her life and she does it to have a bit of fun. We love that for you, Mary.
