The 8 strongmen were discussing how they supposedly challenged the Scottish team of 4 professional tug-o-war champions. It was actually the Scotsmen who challenged them so they could find out who was the strongest.
Responding to their challenge the 8 strongmen came to the venue with confidence and kilts. Since there was a clear advantage for the team of 8, they agreed to start with 5 people on the rope.
The Scotsmen would only add one more person if they lost a round. The strongmen were pretty confident they could beat 5 people, but any more than that they weren’t sure.

One of the strongmen faced 50 kids in a game of tug-o-war and he lost. He knew it wasn’t just about how strong you were, traction and technique are very important as well.
Everyone took their positions and the referee explained to the strongmen the rules of the game and explained the signals he would give to start and end the match.
Once the match started the strongmen easily beat the team of 5, and then they convincingly beat the team of 6. Then when the Scotsmen had 7 of them handling the rope, the tide quickly changed.
The strongmen couldn’t handle the traction against 7 people and they finally lost the match. They weren’t disappointed. Since they were able to beat 6 of them, that made them pretty happy.
