Baby dragonflies will spend months or years underwater. They use a seriously creepy appendage feed themselves while they’re there.
Baby dragonflies spend a lot of time under the water where their moms laid their eggs. Since they don’t have the benefit of wings, they were created with another way to get food — a super strange mouth appendage called a labium.
Acting as a sort of built-in spear gun, the labium shoots out from the bug’s jaw and snatches its lunch, pulling it inside its mouth. I recommend not eating your lunch before you watch this video.
