A Heartwarming Story of a Tiny Dachshund's Escape From Coyotes

A wolf and a dachshund are shown, with the wolf on the left and the dachshund being held by a person on the right.

Samantha Zimmer has dedicated her life to helping lost pets and fostering them. She is a member of the non-profit organization "Lola's Lucky Day" in Houston, Texas. The rescue team was looking for a stray dog in the area. However, in the process, they found out that there was another dog that needed their help.

A small black dog lies on grass near a wooden fence as a person holds a rake.

While searching for the stray dog, one neighbor informs the rescuer that she has seen two coyotes chasing a Dachshund (Carlos) across her golf course. The rescuers had seen the coyotes in their "game cam" earlier. Hence, no one expected the little one to make it through the night against two coyotes.

However, the next day the neighbor finds the Dachshund again on her security camera & informs the rescuers. Everyone is surprised to find a tiny little Dachshund outrunning the coyotes in such an open space.

A man in a blue hoodie and beanie holds a small dog with a rope leash, standing in front of a wooden fence.

Zimmer thinks Carlos must have found a burrow to hide, as Dachshunds are excellent diggers. And then he waited out through the night. The little dog was about 6 years old when he was found.

No one knows how long poor Carlos was out before someone spotted him. The rescuers did not understand why the owner was not looking for the long hair dapple Dachshund. So the rescuers put up a missing post online for the Dachshund and mentioned his unique color and the fact that he is a purebred dog.

Meanwhile, several other dogs welcome the little one at the shelter. Being a bit shy, Carlos loves to sit on the couch and is named a "couch potato." However, he is happy to be around other dogs.

Carlos has so many people to help him now. He has his own blanket and gets proper meals. Zimmer says assisting humans to find their animals and sometimes rehabilitating lost pets is something she feels deeply about. Two people are looking to adopt Carlos, and the process is in progress.
