Two of the best a capella groups combine forces to honor Mother’s Day. The men of ‘Straight No Chaser’ are joined by special guests Austin Brown and Tim Foust of ‘Home Free.’
Together they sing the emotional ballad ‘A Song for Mama.’ The tune was initially made famous by the r&b group ‘Boyz II Men’ in 1997. It spent two weeks at number one on the r&b charts.
In this version, the members of the vocal groups perform together via technology, with each member representing a Zoom virtual square. Pictures of them and their mother appear on the screen as each one is highlighted.
The heartfelt lyrics and inspirational pictures make the performance a real tear-jerker. They sing, ‘Mama, Mama, you know I love you. Mama, you’re the queen of my heart. Your love is like tears from the stars. Mama, I just want you to know, lovin’ you is like food to my soul.’
‘Straight No Chaser’ originated in 1996 at Indiana University. After a comical rendition of ‘The 12 Days of Christmas,’ they shot to fame. The viral YouTube video led to a five-album record deal with Atlantic Records.
‘Home Free’ is a country acapella group featuring five male voices. They won ‘The Sing-Off’ on NBC in 2013, which earned them a recording contract with Sony. The guest members, Austin and Tim, lend their voices to produce unique harmonies and soulful sounds.
Whether it is Mother’s Day or any day, moms deserve honor and praise. This performance is a beautiful way to express love toward their mothers. It is a fantastic version of the song that will surely make mothers cry every time they hear it!
