Have you ever had a family member leave for a long time and come back? Do you remember how you felt when you saw him or her coming into the house? The love that a family has for each of their members is impossible to explain with words. When someone leaves, it is as if a part of you has gone with them. Believe me, I would know.
I had this experience with my older brother. He had always been my hero in many ways. When I was in school, he would be the one who had my back and defended me from bullies. I was very short and skinny back then and was often a victim of bullies. But my oldest brother showed me that as long as I had him, I had nothing to be afraid of.
Many years later, he enlisted in the Army, and every single one of his deployments, I felt that a part of me would go with him. We often wrote to each other and exchanged a few phone calls, but it was never the same as seeing him in person. After 24 years of service, the day for retirement finally came, and he came back home. When he did, there wasn’t a dry eye left in the room.
You might think that missing someone or welcoming home someone that has left for some time is a trait that only humans share, but you would be surprised at how many animals share it, too. They not only share it but are not shy about showing the ones they miss, the love and appreciation they have for them. The first time I saw something like this was with dogs.
One of my neighbors had a dog who fell ill and spent about 10 days at the hospital. The dog had developed kidney problems as a result of something he had eaten The vet who treated him was not giving everyone much hope. About one week later, the dog was pulling through. The dog got back home and sure enough, one of his pals was waiting alongside with the family to welcome him back.
The dog was carried out of the pick-up and helped into the house. His dog-friend was visibly excited. He was jumping around and wagging his tail at the sight of his old pal coming back. My neighbors were even laughing about the fact that the dog was probably more excited than the family to have him back at home. Nevertheless, it became clear to everyone that dogs miss each other dearly when they are apart.
The following video is about a group of monkeys who suddenly found one of them missing. The monkey was found and retrieved. He was later taken to get reunited with his family.
