There’s something magical about acapella music, especially sung in church. The resonance of the surroundings and the beautiful harmonies can raise your spirits as the music fills the air.

In this performance, Hannah Hill sings with an acapella choir at her alma mater. Her powerful voice is filled with emotion as she sings. One commenter wrote, “What an amazing angelic voice you have been gifted.”

The group sings the hymn ‘How Great Thou Art,’ written in Sweden by Carl Boberg. He was an author, editor, and member of the Swedish Parliament from 1912 to 1931.

Carl shared how the song came to be: “It was in 1885, and in the time of year when everything seemed to be in its richest coloring. As we were returning, a thunderstorm began to appear on the horizon. There were loud claps of thunder, and lightning flashed across the sky. However, the storm was soon over, and the clear sky appeared with a beautiful rainbow.”

He continued, “After reaching my home, I opened my window toward the sea, and the church bells were playing the tune of a hymn. That same evening I wrote a poem which I titled, ‘O Store Gud,’ (How Great Thou Art).”

The sunlight shines through the church’s stained glass windows as Hannah sings, accompanied by the choir members standing throughout the church. The sunlight appears to be the primary light source in the dimly lit church.

The reverb of the building adds more strength to the performance as the song builds in intensity throughout the verses. The hymn has been around for a long time, but it is a fresh performance of a Christian classic.
