Adorable Burrowing Owl Becomes First Raptor To Get A 3D Printed Leg

Pueo the Burrowing Owl lost her foot seven years ago, but she hasn’t let that stop her from being awesome. The fine folks at the Lindsey Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek, California work on a project to rehabilitate Pueo by 3D Printing her the first-ever raptor 3D printed foot replacement.

Pueo is a Burrowing Owl living in Walnut Creek, California at the Lindsey Wildlife Experience. When she was a year old she was attacked by an animal which resulted in her losing a foot. The folks at the Lindsey Wildlife Experience work to rehabilitate injured animals, so even though Pueo had adapted to the loss of her foot 7 years ago, they wanted to give her a new one.

Working with an anonymous 3D Printing company, the animal keepers created multiple prototypes of legs, eventually landing on giving Pueo a curved foot which she can lean back on to preen or feed with her original foot. They are looking forward to seeing how she learns to use her new prosthetic.
