Chaichana is a bull elephant who loves music. The former logging elephant lived a hard life before finding sanctuary. His body is marred and scarred from the hard labor of hauling felled trees through Thai forests, with the harnesses leaving a lasting reminder of his roots. What a contrast it must be for Chaichana to be able to enjoy Beethoven’s “Pathetique Sonata.”
The 2nd movement of Beethoven’s sonata starts off with a distinct progression. Watch Chaichana closely, as the entranced elephant begins moving more and more rhythmically, enjoying the music as if in a form of dance. What an endearing sight it is to see the pianist Paul and his mammoth friend enjoying the soothing sound of the piano.
Once you see the retired logging elephant Chaichana enjoying Beethoven’s “Pathetique Sonata,” you may just be moved to tears. Lulled by the music, the rescued elephant sways and moves in an act of love and adoration equal to dance. Now that’s amazing.
