Ah, the smell of popcorn and candy when you walked into Sears

Sears department store was once a staple of American living. You’d be surprised to see the glamours inside of Sears when at its best.

More than 50 years from its creation, Sears was growing stronger and better. In the 1950s it was already a well-established department store and mail-order company.

The unique approach where Sears’s department stores were built away from the downtowns as well as focus on practicality made the company extremely popular.

Their mail-order catalogs were referred to as ‘The Consumers Bible’ already before the 1950s. This helped the expansion of Sears’s iconic department store throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Their department store brands such as Kenmore, Craftsman, DieHard, and Silvertone were present in most of the households in middle-class America. Later, Sears even built what was at the time the tallest building in the world, the Sears Tower, now known as Willis Tower.

And as it seemed that Sears would stay with us forever, it began facing serious challenges from retailers such as Kmart, Walmart, BestBuy, and many more. Challenges Sears, unfortunately, couldn’t meet.
