Alabama Proclaims Their Faith With This Stunning “The Old Rugged Cross” Performance. Touching!

Alabama is one of the most well-loved country music groups in the world. With hits like “Mountain Music” and “Tennessee River”, they’ve left a huge impact on the industry, and in the hearts of fans. But they’re not just amazing country music artists.

While most people know them for their Southern rock influenced work, Alabama also shines when they put their skills to gospel and religious music. Their track “Angels Among Us” debuted on the Billboard Country Music charts, and stayed there for six weeks.

The video below features Alabama singing another great, soulful song. It appears the band is playing in a church somewhere. When given the opportunity to play one of their own songs, the group decides against it. Instead, they choose to sing a 100-year-old hymn “The Old Rugged Cross”.

Their choice is, for lack of a better words, divine. It seems like Alabama can put the golden touch on anything they perform.

Written in 1912 by evangelist and song-leader George Bernard, “The Old Rugged Cross” gained popularity when Ernest Tubb released his own version in 1952. And now it has another breath of new life, through the grace of Alabama.

Watch this moving rendition of the classic hymn in the video below. What did you think? We’d love to hear from you!
