Artists have an amazing gift, they have the power to bridge abstract ideas into our concrete world. There are several disciplines through which visual arts creators can wow us, but there will always be individuals that push the limits of creativity. Paper sculpting has increased in popularity in the last eight years, the following video gives us an example of what you can do using this technique!
Calvin Nicholls uses paper to create breathtaking 3-dimensional sculptures that are incredibly realistic. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Calvin explains the motivation behind his artwork:
“I developed my art to the point where I blended many of my passions – wildlife, the natural world, photography, design, model making, sculpture, light and shadow and have managed to indulge all of them.”
Nichol’s uses pop-out frames, which make each sculpture, look even more realistic and another important detail of every one of Calvin’s work is the life-like eyes. The emotion they express and the special message conveyed through Nicholl’s art is quite simply breathtaking!
In the video below you’ll be able to look at this artist’s process from beginning to end. Keep in mind that many of these sculptures take well over a month or several to finish. Truly Nicholl’s work is awe inspiring.
