Angela Lansbury Without a Doubt Is One of the Most Awarded Actress's of All Time

Five-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury is an incredible actress and singer who has impressed the world with her 70-year career! You have almost certainly seen her in one or more of her roles on television, on Broadway, in the many films she made, or have heard her sing some of your favorite songs.

While everyone has undoubtedly seen or heard Angela Lansbury, many people don't know her life story, and it's pretty amazing!

Angela Lansbury was born on October 16, 1925, in London, but she moved to New York City when she was only fifteen years old. She immediately started studying acting and moved to Hollywood in 1942.

MGM instantly hired her, and her very first roles earned her two Oscar nominations and a Golden Globe Award! In 1952, she ended her contract with MGM and began focusing more on theatrical roles.

However, over the next decade, Lansbury would continue to succeed in film and on stage. In 1962, her role in The Manchurian Candidate led to her third Academy Award nomination and solidified her standing as a famous and fantastic actress.

Meanwhile, in 1966, her leading role in Mame on Broadway earned her first Tony Award and established her as a gay icon. Her success in the theater continued with her leading roles in the musicals Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, and The King and I.

Lansbury also gained a significant amount of attention for her Disney movies, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and as the voice of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast.

She flawlessly segued into television in the hit detective series Murder She Wrote, which was one of the most popular shows on television that ran for twelve incredible seasons from 1984-1996.

Lansbury is not only beloved by fans but by critics as well. She has received an Honorary Academy Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BAFTA, a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award and five additional Tony Awards, six Golden Globes, and an Olivier Award.

She has also been nominated for numerous other industry awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress on three occasions, and various Primetime Emmy Awards on 18 occasions, and a Grammy Award.

This marvelous woman has starred in fourteen Broadway productions, over a hundred films and television shows, and countless stage performances all around the world.

Although she retired from performing in 2001, Angela Lansbury returned to the stage in 2008 and has continued to showcase her fantastic acting skills for the last fifteen years in popular films and on Broadway.

For almost 70 years, Angela Lansbury has been one of Hollywood and Broadway's most acclaimed actresses, and it doesn't seem like she's stopping anytime soon!
