Archie Bunker Has a Bad Day at the Hospital

An older man with gray hair and a concerned expression, lying in a hospital bed.

The classic TV sitcom 'All in the Family' centered around the legend Archie Bunker. His antics were fully displayed from 1971 through 1979, and American TV audiences couldn't get enough. This funny scene comes from Season 7, Episode 6 'Archie's Operation: Part 2.’

A man with gray hair lies in a hospital bed, wearing a light blue gown, with a concerned expression.

Archie's bad day at the hospital begins with Archie complaining to his nurse. He doesn't know why the back of the hospital gown they gave him is open. Archie remarks about how he is flashing the world.

He also says he can't turn it around because he will still be flashing everyone. The annoyed nurse tells him to get into bed. Archie waits and tells her to look away. She turns around, saying, "When you've seen one, you've seen them all."

A doctor in a white coat stands beside a patient in a hospital bed, holding a stethoscope and a small object.

Archie tells his nurse to explain everything she is doing to him. The nurse tells him to behave and comically threatens to beat him with a bedpan. She gives him a shot and tells him to turn over.

He tells her to wait for the real doctor, but she confirms that she is a real doctor. Archie says, surprised, "Woah, you're a regular doctor?" She responds, "Only at night. By day, I strangle chickens for the Colonel."

A doctor in a white coat leans over a patient in a hospital bed, engaging in conversation.

She pulls out a razor, and Archie says, "I shaved this morning." She says, "Not where I'm going to shave." Archie gets worried and warns her to stop, saying, "One slip of a weapon like that can change my whole personality."

Archie complains about being so ashamed. The doctor says she won't cause him any shame because she'll close her eyes when she shaves him. Archie yelps as the crowd laughs. It is a great scene that showcases the tremendous comedic acting of Carroll O'Connor as 'Archie Bunker.'
