Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and all manner of species too! It was ironic that Jack’s owner was overseas serving in Afghanistan, as back home his pooch was doing just as an important job too! We’re sure he would have been proud to hear about his beloved pet standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves!
The incident in question happened one evening when Jack – a Pitbull and Kitty – the cat were playing in the backyard of their Florida home. While Jack’s owner is away, he is being looked after by his grandmother – Sherree Lewis. Sherree was on hand to witness the incredible rescue operation that Jack mounted when Kitty was attacked by two wild coyotes!
Sherree recalls that the two vicious scavengers had poor Kitty in their vice-like grip (which is one of the most powerful in the animal kingdom) with one holding around her neck and another grabbing onto either her tail or a hind leg. Coyotes are known for their merciless attacks when it comes to hunting for food, and it looked like they’d be dining well that evening. But they hadn’t counted on a certain Pitbull – who wasn’t about to let his feline friend become someone’s dinner!
Jack rocketed across the garden at break-neck speed to rescue Kitty from the coyote’s jaws, and as Sherree mentions – she’s never seen him run that fast! We think even for some brutal coyotes, seeing a Pitbull launching right at you would scare you half to death! The two wild animals immediately let go of Kitty and did a runner into the night! They won’t be back to this house again that’s for sure!
Now Jack constantly keeps a watchful eye over his friend and companion, and Sherree says he’s always at the window looking out for trouble. The fearless pooch is determined that no harm will come to his cat-friend, and the two of them are rarely apart. “He probably feels like he’s the caretaker. He checks on her every day and sniffs her, seeing what kind of shape she is in,” said Sherree.
Don’t miss this amazing video below and listen to Jack’s heroic tale of rescue. Even though he was defending a cat – traditionally a dog’s mortal enemy – this is one amazing pooch for whom love knows no boundaries. We could all learn a lesson from Jack!
