This Baby Orangutan Just Saw Another Orangutan For The Very First Time After Her Rescue

Meeting new people can be a little scary, especially if you’re getting over traumatic events. Rickina, a baby orangutan at the International Animal Rescue in Indonesia, knows this firsthand. She was only a few months old when her own mother was murdered, and her caretakers at the sanctuary stepped in as surrogate moms.

At first, Rickina was kept separate from other orangutans so she could acclimate to her new surroundings. She grew close to her caretakers, and after about a month they decided she was ready to meet a few of her peers.

They brought Rickina to the orangutan playground, but at first she didn’t want to leave the side of her caregiver. The other orangutans came over to meet Rickina. It took a bit of adjustment time, but after a while she gained enough confidence to venture away from her old friend, and meet some new ones.

Soon, the sweet orangutan was climbing all over the playground and having a great time. Though the video below was uploaded in 2013, Rickina is still doing very well at the sanctuary.
