You can’t get more patriotic than Barry Manilow’s July 4th, 1986 performance with conductor John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra. The two powerhouses joined forces for the rededication of the Statue of Liberty.
Barry sits at a grand piano, wearing a suit and tie adorned with shiny glitter. He sits in front of the Boston Pops, who have red and blue lights shining brightly behind them.
John Williams conducts behind Barry as he begins with the wind blowing through his hair on the outdoor stage. Barry sings ‘America the Beautiful’ in a calm, peaceful tone, and there is footage of the Statue of Liberty.
The song ends, and Barry stands with a microphone in his hands as he sings his original tune, “One Voice.” The orchestra gets louder as he finishes that song and the crowd cheers.
Then, John Denver joins Barry on stage, followed by other famous singers, including Whitney Houston and Johnny Cash. The star-studded lineup of performers follows John Williams’ conducting.
The larger singing group sings, “America, America, God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.” The crowd goes wild as the Statue of Liberty is lit up.
It is certainly a rousing patriotic celebration that demonstrates the love of America through music. The fantastic voices deliver a powerful salute to our country at the rededication of the Statue of Liberty.
