I hope you're ready for a tasty trip down memory lane as we reminisce about the good ol' days of the International House of Pancakes, or as we affectionately call it, IHOP. Remember when those delightful, fluffy pancakes with exotic flavors like Tahitian orange pineapple and Kauai coconut first stole our hearts? Oh, and how can we forget the iconic A-frame building with the blue roof that became the symbol of breakfast paradise?
Gather 'round, pancake pals, because we're about to relive the story of the beloved breakfast hotspot that became a household name. Brothers Al and Jerry Lapin opened the first IHOP in 1958 in Toluca Lake, California. It quickly won over patrons, including Hollywood legends like Doris Day, Milton Berle, and Jimmy Stewart. The restaurant continued to grow, and by the early '70s, IHOP became the lifeline for its parent company, International Industries.
The '70s brought us the catchy acronym IHOP and an adorable kangaroo mascot, which made the restaurant even more lovable. Fast forward to the '80s, and IHOP started offering lunch and dinner options to keep up with Sambos and Denny's. And who can forget the iconic Rudy Tutti Fresh and Fruity special? Introduced in 1985, it made us chuckle as we enjoyed a plateful of delicious breakfast goodness for just two bucks. The endearing IHOP spokesman, Cliff Bemis, became a fixture in our homes from the mid-'80s to the mid-'90s.

By 1992, IHOP had 500 locations across the nation, and a year later, they introduced Country Griddle Cakes, a successful collaboration with Nabisco. The partnership was a match made in pancake heaven, and it only propelled IHOP to even greater heights. By 2001, IHOP had doubled its locations to 1,000, and sales had surpassed the $1 billion mark.
IHOP continued to grow throughout the 2000s with catchy ad campaigns like "Come Hungry, Leave Happy." In 2007, IHOP made a cash offer to buy Applebee's, making them the largest full-service restaurant company in the world. In 2015, IHOP rebranded with a smile in its logo, reflecting a more playful appearance, and upgraded their restaurants with modern, welcoming interiors.

Today, IHOP has nearly 1,800 restaurants worldwide and even has its own National Pancake Day in February. They give away millions of pancakes and raise millions for charity. How amazing is that?
Now that we've strolled through IHOP's rich history together, why not watch the video to relive those mouthwatering memories? Bon appétit!
