There is no stronger spirit out there than a mother who wants to be there for her kids. She may be sick, but through sheer determination, even miracles, she may recover. That’s not always the case, but it won’t be for lack of trying, that’s for sure. Keep that in mind as you watch this story about a very special pig. No, I’m not taking about “Charlotte’s Web” here. You just have to watch and see.
We are introduced to Emma. She came to Farmer John Chester’s farm as a very underweight pregnant pig. Initially, she was thought to be carrying six piglets. Well, when she went into labor, she was like a circus clown car – piglet after piglet came out. All in all, she gave birth to 17 piglets, but 13 of them survived. Farmer John noted, “13 piglets is still A LOT!” Then things took a turn for the worse for Emma.
Emma had a very high fever and the act of milking her piglets was literally draining the life out of her. Farmer John had a big decision to make. At first he removed all the piglets (they looked so cute in this giant bucket), but the task of having to feed them bottled milk 3-4 times a day was really onerous. So, he had to help Emma regain the will to live. First, he gave her medicine, but she needed something more.
So, he did what he thought was best for her – he brought the piglets back (that giant bucket again!) and the sight of them apparently made her maternal instincts kick in. Her health miraculously improved – even Farmer John said that if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed it. The piglets grew to be giant pigs themselves, and Emma, now an empty-nester, adopted a rooster as a pet. Oh, and Farmer John? Inspired by Emma, he and his wife decided to bring a human baby into the world – their own. His wife was pregnant at the end.
