Bittersweet Performance of “I Wish I Was 18 Again” By George Burns

The phrase “age is just a number” can only be applied to so many circumstances. It’s inevitable that with each passing year, you’re getting further and further from your youth. While growing up has perks, there’s a certain melancholy feeling with more candles on the cake.

George Burns is one of the greatest comedians that this world has ever seen. The legendary entertainer was born in 1896 and lived to be over 100 years old. Unlike most people, he worked up until his last breath.

In a rare singing performance, George performs a bittersweet rendition of the song “I Wish I Was 18 Again.” With moving lyrics like “Time turns the pages and life goes so fast. The years turn, the black hair all gray. I talk to some young folks, but they don’t understand the words this old man got to say.”

It’s hard to hold back tears as your mind is racing through a million emotions as Burns’ smooth voice sings. It makes you wonder if youth isn’t wasted on the young and what we’d do differently if we could go back in Time to the dog days.
