Blake Shelton’s ‘No Body’ has a wonderfully nostalgic tone

Blake Shelton takes a step back into the past with ‘No Body.’ The song itself feels very much like a modern country melody. The music video, though, is a blast from the past.

The video starts with a biker pulling up to a bar. He enters the establishment ready to have a good time. The music starts up as he enters the establishment.

Notice how the video changes upon his entrance—the aspect ratio shifts to the classic 4:3 ratio you’d see on old televisions. The video quality has an older feel that makes you think you’re watching a VHS tape.

Even the title for the song is retro. Blake Shelton’s name and the title ‘No Body’ come up in low-resolution font. It’s enough to make you feel like you’re back in the 1990s.

Blake sings on a stage dressed in a flashy cowboy outfit. There’s a neon sign behind him. The audience is all dressed in the Southern attire you’d expect from a Billy Ray Cyrus video.

Blake sings with romance and energy about devotion. While he sings, the audience engages in stylish line dancing. The dancers scoot their boots to the music as the bright lights shine.

There’s plenty of movement from the camera. It bobs and weaves around Blake as he sings directly to the camera. There are also plenty of close-ups of the band and their brilliant country styles.

In addition to the neon signage on the dance floor, there are also transitions. When cutting between Blake and the crowd, plenty of slide cuts and circle transitions feel right at home in the 1990s.

The music video ends with Blake sitting down for a drink with a woman. He is hit in the head playfully by an object thrown from the audience. It’s an abrupt but fun end to another exciting country song.

Blake Shelton has been one of the most successful country music stars of the past few years. His hit singles include ‘Come Back As A Country Boy’ and ‘Nobody But You.’ He also sang with Gwen Stefani on the song ‘Happy Anywhere.’

Shelton is also an award-winning artist. He has won the 2019 CMA Award and the 2020 ACM Award for Single of the Year. It’s easy to see why with such an engaging music video like this.
