Elephants continue to surprise us. In addition to being one of the cleverest creatures on the planet, they exhibit surprising displays of emotional intellect. The best example of that tenderness comes when nannies and little ones interact.
Bai Toey was a young Asian elephant who lived in Thailand and spent a lot of her time with her blind nanny, Mee Boon. Thanks to the support and protection of caretakers, she lived a life full of joy and adventure.
Wherever her curious, playful personality took her, Mee Boon was right by her side. In fact, Bai Toey often reassured her nanny when the two of them went into the river together.
But today was different. The sloped ramp into the water had disappeared beneath the flooded river. Bai Toey stepped into the water and waded a short distance from the shore.
But before she got far, Bai Toey turned around and swam back to her Mee Boon. This time, the blind nanny surprised onlookers by being the brave one for Bai Toey.
Despite not being able to see, Mee Boon understood exactly what her younger family member needed. Every couple of steps, Mee Boon reassured the little one and waded further into the river.
While we might not be able to speak to these intelligent animals, their empathy and thoughtfulness is easy to see. If you need a short video to improve your mood, you could not do better than this loving interaction between these two elephants.
