‘Brooks & Dunn’ have a storied career in country music, and their catalog of hits spans decades of success. The guys perform on ‘CMT Storytellers’ in an intimate setting of their hit ‘Neon Moon.’
Brooks starts by telling a story about something he’s uncomfortable with doing. He tells the audience that Dunn messaged him one day about their song ‘Neon Moon’ and the dance craze sweeping the internet.
Dunn told him that the record company wanted the guys to record themselves doing the viral dance. Brooks told Dunn there was no chance he would do any dancing. ‘It ain’t gonna happen. The cowboy ain’t doing it!’ Brooks said.
Finally, he agreed to a couple of the moves, and Dunn told him that the viral hits were rising because of his efforts. Brooks enjoyed the viral moment but said, ‘It wasn’t really cool until I saw a raccoon do it!’ The audience laughs, and the guys begin the song.
Dunn sings lead as the band accompanies him. The stage and audience are close to each other, adding to the intimate feel of the performance. Blue lights shower the backdrop, while amber-colored spotlights add a nice ambiance.
Dunn encourages the crowd to sing by putting his microphone out to them near the tune’s end. The audience sings, and Dunn says, ‘You sound better than we do.’ Then he has them tag the ending and hold out the high note. They all laugh after the audience fails. Finally, Dunn pulls off the final note to the audience’s cheers.
Then, he goes for a little soulful fill, leading to the ending and thunderous applause by the crowd. It is a wonderful performance of their hit song that involves some fun audience participation.
