Daughter & Dad deliver “gold standard” Whitney Houston cover

‘American Idol’ has discovered some natural talent over the years. While many are unknowns, some come from musical families. Cadence Baker entered the audition with her professional guitar-playing father at her side.

Not only that, Cadence’s grandfather wrote the hit song, ‘I Swear.’ So, we know she had a solid musical background growing up. She tells us that she began singing at the age of 4.

Cadence tells the judges she will be singing Whitney Houston’s ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight.’ They seem interested in the song choice. She begins in her lower range, and the song builds when she hits the first chorus. She hits higher notes and adds improvised vocal riffs as she begins the bridge.

She ends softly with another smooth vocal riff at the conclusion, with her dad Shane hitting the final chord. All three judges stand to their feet in applauding Cadence’s efforts.

Lionel starts the review by saying, ‘That was not fair! People come in all the time with guitars, but you come in with a professional guitar player. I loved it!’ Cadence’s father is moved to tears by Lionel’s praise.

Katy Perry is next up, and she had her doubts when Cadence told her the song she was going to sing. Not everyone can handle covering a Whitney song, but Katy loved the performance.

Luke Bryan gave the most praise as he told Cadence he wrote ‘potentially top ten’ in his notes. He was stunned by her incredible voice and felt strongly about her ability to possibly win the whole competition. 3 ‘yes’ votes send Cadence to Hollywood, and she hugs her dad in celebration.
