The world is full of strange and interesting creatures. One of these is the bald uakari, a monkey that lives on the Amazon River in the Brazilian jungle. There are a number of characteristics that set these animals apart from its fellow monkey brethren.
First, and most obvious, it it’s head. Whereas most other monkey have plenty of fur on their face, the bald uakari sport bright red skin and little else. In fact, for the uakari, the brighter their skin, the better!
It’s not just their face that sets them apart. These monkey also lack the long tail we so commonly associate with monkeys. These guys can live up to 20 years, and grow to about 60 inches in length.
Their unique appearance and shrinking habitat has put the uakari at risk. Timber and mining operations in the Amazon claim hundreds of acres of jungle every single day. In addition, the uakari are often sold at local markets as pets, despite them being on the vulnerable species list.
