In Season 5, Episode 5 of ‘The Carol Burnett Show,’ they present ‘Tearjerker Theater.’ Vicki Lawrence introduces the sketch by saying this is a sequel to their previous production called ‘Beyond Lovely Story.’

Harvey walks into his home, saying, “What can you say about a beautiful lovely 25-year-old girl after ten years of marriage?” Carol appears dressed sloppily, partially in rollers, with her hair a mess. Dramatic music is playing in the background.
Harvey yells, “Why do we always have to have that music?” Carol says, “I’ll turn it off.” She goes to the closet and opens the door, and violinists come out and walk out the door. The soap opera music stops when they leave. Carol tries to give him a hickey. Harvey complains, “It’s like living with Count Dracula.”

Then, he asks her what she made for dinner. She replies, “Love means never having to make dinner.” Carol is wrapped around Harvey’s waist as he tries to move across the room, dragging her along. Harvey says, “This place is a mess. Why can’t you ever clean the house?!” Carol responds, “Love means never having to clean the house.”
He drags her across the floor and begs for some alone time. Carol agrees to leave him alone and leaves the room. Harvey is thrilled to be alone. He opens the closet door, and Carol pops out, hanging on the door. Harvey goes to open the curtains, and Carol is at the window. He gets something to eat, and Carol is in the cabinet. He says, “I need to get something to eat.” Carol says, “Nibble on me.” Harvey says, “I’m tired of leftovers!”

Harvey tells her that he is leaving her. Carol chuckles at the thought. He says nothing you can say will change my mind. Carol coughs as if she is sick. Since she died in the previous sketch, Harvey falls for the same trick and returns to her aid. The doctor, played by Lyle Waggoner, comes in and says, “I’m afraid it’s too late.” He checks her, tells Harvey to give her three kisses every hour and call him in the morning.
She pretends to die, and Lyle gives her mouth-to-mouth. Harvey tries to interrupt, but he keeps getting pushed away. He takes over, but Carol isn’t happy with the results. Carol dies, and the two men cry while they fold her up in the sofa bed.
