The Carol Burnett Show

The sketch features Harvey Korman and Carol Burnett as the eponymous Funt and Mundane, two bumbling actors who are staging their final performance. Before the show begins, they gather their crew to give them a piece of their minds.

Funt rips into the sound effects guy, telling him he's "totally inept" and should be "flagged." Meanwhile, Mundane berates the lighting guy, saying a boy scout with a flashlight could do better. They even threaten to banish the prop man from the theater forever!

Despite their crew's incompetence, Funt and Mundane are determined to give a performance for the ages. The play they're performing is a classic tale of forbidden love, with Funt playing Dexter, a bachelor in love with Mundane's character, Cynthia, a married woman.

As soon as the play starts, chaos ensues. A prop falls from the ceiling, the chandelier crashes to the ground, and the candles on the dinner table light up like firecrackers. Cynthia's chair and couch break, and the Champagne bottle won't open. It's a comedy of errors that will leave you rolling on the floor with laughter.

Funt and Mundane soldier on, even as Mundane or Cynthia become increasingly frustrated with the disastrous performance. Dexter (Funt) keeps going on with the script. Dexter tries to woo her with promises of leaving his rockstar life and playing piano only for her.

But as he starts to play a Chopin tune, the piano lid falls on Cynthia's hand, making her scream like an owl. Dexter soon gears up for a date with Cynthia, but she's worried that her husband Malcolm (played by Lyle Waggoner) will catch them in the act.

Dexter, being the smooth talker he is, assures her that Malcolm is too busy trying to build a career to even notice. He then tries to impress Cynthia by showing off his fancy penthouse view, only to catch the prop crew personnel chowing down on hotdogs!

The sketch reaches its climax as Funt, Mundane, & Malcolm attempt to navigate through the chaos. The audience is left in stitches as the trio tries to salvage the situation, only for things to go hilariously wrong repeatedly. However, despite all the mishaps, Funt and Mundane deliver a performance that leaves the audience in tears of laughter.
