Seeing pets joining in singing songs is always so adorable. There have been dogs on talent shows who have sang along to songs like “I Will Always Love You.” Parrots, who are natural mimics can also get songs down nearly perfectly. Cats? Well, not many cats are known to be singers. There’s the whole “sound like a dying cat” insult. But here’s a cat named Hattie that might change your mind.
Hattie the cat gets in on the act. She knows to meow when someone says, “If you’re happy and you know it, say ‘Meow!’” Sure enough, she hits her mark every single time. What a smart cat! Though I would have been more impressed if she clapped her paws instead. Then again, I am very hard to please sometimes. It’s still a cool thing for her to be able to do. I loved how she just flopped down at the end like the effort tired her out.
I wonder how long it took them to train her to do this. Cats are notoriously untrainable, for the most part. There’s a reason why you don’t see that many, if any, signs for cat training school. If you did send your cat to one of those, I think just emptying your wallet into the toilet and flushing it would be a better use for your money. Then again, even trained cats tend to have the air of “I’m doing this because I want to… and it’s finished when I say it’s finished!”
It was pretty clear that Hattie wasn’t feeling the song after the first verse. When they started the second verse, she pretty much has an expression on her face like, “Again? I only signed a contract for one verse! What is this?” Then when the third verse came around, she just shut it down. No more. Hattie did her own version of a protest. That’s why this video is only 20 seconds long.
