Creedence Clearwater Revival

The pure soul rock on ‘CCR’ better known as ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival’ was featured on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ in 1969. The band was led by the unique, raspy rock voice of John Fogerty.

The first camera angle starts on the drummer and pans down through the dark, dimly lit stage to the bass player, leaning on a wooden post, and John Fogerty playing right behind him.

The band members have long hair and colorful collared shirts. The camera moves back and forth between an elaborate wood plank set the band sets up in front of.

John Fogerty plays some nice guitar licks on an instrumental break. He does his typical bopping around in front of the microphone stand, and his thick bangs and long hair bounce along with him.

John sings the classic lyrics, “Some folks are born made to wave the flag. Hoo, they’re red, white, and blue, and when the band plays “Hail to the chief,” ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord.”

Creedence Clearwater Revival

‘Creedence Clearwater Revival’ was born in 1967 after going through a few name changes. ‘Blue Velvets’ and then ‘Golliwogs’ were the previous names the band played under.

Their musical style was sometimes called blues rock, southern rock, or swamp rock. They sang about bayous, catfish, and the Mississippi River. They also featured socially conscious lyrics like the lines in ‘Fortunate Son’ featured on Sullivan.
