While a man went looking for mushrooms in the wilderness, he saw a poor German Shepherd abandoned and chained to a tree. They were in Crete, an island of Greece, and the man decided to contact Takis Proetakis.
Takis runs an animal shelter, and he has saved over 200 dogs. Many people abandoned their pets when the financial crisis hit Greece. It was unclear how long the dog had been tied to the tree.
When Takis and his team arrived at the dog’s location, they saw that he had no water. It was fortunate that the dog survived so long without shelter.
The sight of the scared animal made Takis very angry. They gave the dog food and water so he would trust them. The dog was happy to see people and couldn’t wait to be free.
They took the chain off the tree, and the dog still had a lot of energy despite his condition. When they got to the car, the dog wanted to immediately jump in on his own.
At the shelter, Takis was worried because most dogs chained for a long time end up becoming very aggressive. This dog showed no dangerous behavior. Eventually, they decided to name him Rex.
Takis said that Rex got along with the other dogs, and he never caused any problems. Rex is a gentleman, and it won’t be challenging to find him a new home.
