Charlie Daniels Talks About His Deep And Undying Love For His Wife, 51 Years Later

Charlie Daniels is best known for his iconic hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, but he’s enjoyed a lot of success over his illustrious 60+ year career. It isn’t the awards and the number one singles that Charlie holds most dear, though. It’s his 51-year-long marriage to wife, Hazel.

NewsOK interviewed Charlie last year, commemorating the couple’s 50th anniversary celebration. Charlie shared with the magazine the story of how he and Hazel first met.

He was in Tulsa when he first laid eyes on the woman who would be with him the rest of his life. His band, The Jaguars, were playing a gig at the Fondalite Club when it walked a beautiful woman who caught his eye immediately.

From the stage, Charlie got her attention by calling out into the crowd, “Hey I like that curvy little blonde over there. Hey how are you doin’?” His play worked, apparently, and the two ended up falling in love.

At one point Charlie was asked about the secret to a long marriage. “It’s just finding somebody you truly love that you want to spend the rest of your life with…,” he said. “If you can’t find somebody you’d like to spend the rest of your life with, don’t tie the knot, because that’s not gonna make ya happy.”
