Cher is a music icon and an American legend. Her decades of success have seen her perform original material and popular cover songs. She does a fantastic performance of 1964 Betty Everett’s ‘The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss).’
Cher’s cover was for the soundtrack to the 1990 film ‘Mermaids.’ It reached number one on the U.K. charts and number 33 in America. It was Cher’s first number one since 1965’s ‘I Got You Babe’ with her husband, Sonny Bono.
Cher sings accompanied by child star Christina Ricci and teen star Winona Ryder. They are dressed in fabulous 60s dresses as they attempt to comically recreate some of the backup dancers’ moves from the era.
The two younger stars play Cher’s daughters in the film. Later in the performance, everyone starts spray-painting a wall while Cher sings with full-bodied intensity.
The single’s success continued to propel Cher’s comeback and eventually led to her 1999 release ‘If I Could Turn Back Time- Cher’s Greatest Hits,’ which included ‘The Shoop Shoop Song.’
Cher has been referred to in the media as the ‘Goddess of Pop.’ After selling 40 million records in the duo Sonny & Cher, she went solo, achieving success with songs like ‘Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves,’ and ‘Dark Lady.’
Cher has also performed on Broadway and, more notably, in a storied movie career. She starred in ‘Silkwood,’ ‘Mask,’ ‘The Witches of Eastwick,’ and ‘Moonstruck.’ Cher is a multi-talented star with decades of success and millions of fans.
