Dogs are very loyal creatures and when they know an addition to the family is expected, they go ballistic with happiness! It seems like they’re almost saying, “Yay, another person to love and lick!” It doesn’t matter what size or breed the dog is, they are known to be safe and reliable buddies for newborns, infants and children.
As his mum walks in the door, carrying her newborn in the baby seat, Milo goes crazy in excitement! You can see the dog in the video, running all over the house in anticipation of meeting his new sister. It’s really so adorable! The dog sees the new baby and licks the baby’s face and smells her, getting familiar with the new scent as the protective parents watch on.
The responsible parents realize it is better for the dog to get acquainted with the infant, rather than keeping it isolated away from the dog. This way the dog gets to know the child and becomes a good companion as well as guard dog for the baby. Milo inspects his baby sister thoroughly as he adjusts to the new addition to his family.
This is a very important socialization step for new parents and their pets. Just like any sibling, if they are not allowed to close, resentment may foster which may lead to the child and her siblings being estranged or unable to interact well with each other in the future. But by introducing them early on, it cements the protective bond of elder-younger sibling and removes the chance for resentment to grow.
This is a healthy step for everyone. As you can see in the video, Milo accepts his baby sister lovingly and even offers her his beloved toy as a gift. Isn’t that Sweet!!! It’s clear to see that they will be close companions later.
