Milwaukee bus driver, Shamika Anderson’s bus broke down on a hot 92-degree day. She decided to sit down on the sidewalk as she waited for another bus to arrive. This is when young DJ Fromme appeared.
DJ, the 10-year-old kid from the neighborhood happened to be skating by when he saw her. Anderson’s dejected expression made him approach her and ask her how she was doing.
As Anderson conversed with the child and told him about her situation, he offered to let her ride his skateboard to cheer her up. DJ lend a steady hand as she tried to stay upright.

During this time, Anderson learned about DJ’s situation at home. He had popped the tires of his bike, he was adopted, and his guardian had been diagnosed with brain cancer.
All of this and more was said during their 20-minute encounter. As Anderson saw the boy talk about his hardships, she realized that he still had a positive attitude to life.
When Anderson’s backup bus arrived, she realized that she had been fortunate to meet this young boy while she waited. At that moment she made up a plan and gave her number to DJ to give to his guardians.
Two days later, Shamika Anderson surprised DJ Fromme at his house with a new bike. Anderson was so touched by his kind action that she wanted to pay it forward by making him happy and be a blessing to him and his family.
