Church Goers Risk Lives Getting to the World’s Most Dangerous Church

When you hear the phrase “world’s most dangerous church,” you may think of a cult or a church leader that abuses their privileges. This isn’t the case when it comes to the real-life version of the world’s most dangerous church, and you have to see it to understand where the name comes from.

Located in Ethiopia, the Abuna Yemata Guh church is quite different from anything you’d find in America. They take their leaps of faith a little more literal than the average place of worship. Why? It’s located at over 8,400 feet high, and you have to climb to get there.

It is the world’s most inaccessible place of worship, and it was built right into the side of a giant cliff. Churchgoers must climb a challenging 45-minute vertical climb up the bottom of the cliff to read the spiritual destination.

This beautiful church was built over 1,500 years ago, thanks to Father Yemata. According to a former priest, no one has ever fallen or died while climbing to the building. Some people even strap their kids or elderly family members to them as they do the climb.
