The story is about Diane Hunter (Deidre Hall), the publisher of the men’s magazine, “Bachelor World,” who decides to sell her stock to a media big-shot. However, her partner, Sean Brantley (Ian Buchanon), objects to it.

Soon afterward, Miss Hunter disappears on a London-bound flight. Naturally, everyone suspects she is on a trip to England to sell her shares. But, unfortunately, she does not turn up for the meeting, and Lt Columbo is given the responsibility of investigating her disappearance.

He is convinced that the business partner and the lover have killed Hunter so that he can stop her from selling her share of stocks for the magazine. The first time Hunter disappears, it is a collision between Hunter and Brantley, where Hunter fakes her own death.

However, the second time she disappears, it gets challenging for Columbo to pinpoint the suspect because he was already proven wrong once before. Finally, he tells the playboy, “You put me in the position who cried, Wolf. I got to hand it to you. You did a perfect crime.”

Columbo tells Brantley that the fur coat storage bag is missing and that Hunter’s body is in the bag so that he can keep it from smelling when it decomposes. The angry playboy asks detective Columbo to leave his house.

However, before Columbo leaves, he asks Brantley if he can make a call. He leaves a pager message for someone, and soon it starts to beep. The voice seems to be coming from inside the bathroom wall. With the help of a tool, Columbo cracks open the wooden wall and discovers Hunter’s body. The page shows a message for Brantley that says, “GOTCHA.”
