Farms are meant for farm animals. You wouldn’t expect to see a marine creature in the middle of a farm, would you? Imagine how surprised this birdwatcher might have been when he spotted a stranded baby seal in the middle of a herd of 30 cows! Ian Ellis was checking out his surroundings, but when he saw the strange sight, he couldn’t believe it.
No one knew for sure how the five-day old seal ended up there. They believe she may have washed up with the tide, and gotten stranded when it receded. Then she somehow made her way to this pasture where she got stuck in the mud and discovered by a herd of about 30 cows. They seemed very curious about this creature.
However, despite their confusion, the cows hadn’t hurt the tiny pup in any way. Ian immediately called for help. The little seal was treated for dehydration and the vets helped her gain some weight as well. She was also provided with antibiotics to help with a breathing issue.
Until she recovers fully, she won’t be released into her natural habitat. She has to weigh between 60 and 70 pounds, and be capable of feeding herself before this adorable little sea creature can go back to the sea.
She was named Celebration, and you have to see these photos of her. What a brave and adorable little sea lion she is. Those cows look like they might want to keep her as a playmate.
