Diana Ross & The Supremes perform “In And Out Of Love” on “The Ed Sullivan Show”

‘Diana Ross & The Supremes’ took the stage at ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ in 1967. They performed their hit song ‘In And Out Of Love’ with incredible vocals and high fashion.

The girls wore long, white evening gowns that had a sheer look. Their vast, dangling earrings look like clear rock candy and they had some great background dance moves that coordinated with their harmonies.

They stood in front of a sheer blue curtain with neon lighting behind it. The camera just loved Diana, as many close-ups were featured during the tune’s verses.

The Supremes

When this song was released, ‘The Supremes’ had already become the most successful American music group of all time. They had scored 10 number 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

This song represents the last single that contained the backing duo of Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard. Florence was the group’s founder, but her growing concerns about the group’s direction caused her to leave. She was upset about her reduced role in the ensemble.

The Supremes

In 1967 ‘The Supremes’ became ‘Diana Ross and the Supremes.’ The single ‘In and Out of Love’ was the second song released under the new name. It peaked at number 9 on the charts and was chosen by ‘American Bandstand’ voters as the song for the summer dance contest.

The biggest girl group in pop music history delivered a stellar performance for Ed Sullivan’s audience. They appeared on Sullivan’s show over 16 times through the decade of the 60s. Here’s another beautiful example of the greatness of ‘Diana Ross and the Supremes.’
