Doctor collects flowers from weddings and turns them into beautiful bouquets for lonely patients

Eleanor Love was a medical student who took leftover flowers and created new arrangements to give to patients at the hospital. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and is doing a general residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Before entering medical school, she worked out at a flower shop which showed her how much she could do with the beauty of the flowers. While working at the hospital, she started The Simple Sunflower project.

Eleanor reached out to weddings and other events to ask them if they would donate their flowers. Most of them didn’t have any plans for the flowers after the event was over.

The project grew in size and attracted a lot of volunteers that Eleanor has trained. She taught them how to pick out the freshest flowers and how to prepare them for arrangements.

All the patients and their families were grateful for the flowers they received from Eleanor and her organization. It brought smiles to everyone’s faces and brightened their moods.

While studying, she realized that she had no creative outlet. Arranging flowers for patients was the best way for her to show love and gratitude for people in the hospital.

For Eleanor, everything about medicine was complicated, so she specifically picked the name The Simple Sunflower. It represents joy and positivity, which she wanted to give to the patients and their families.
